THE BREAKDOWN:
- ●I teach groups of 4 whenever possible.
- ●Learning with friends makes it more fun & less intimidating.
- ●Everyone starts at the same level — and has a group to practice with after.
- ●Lesson 1 is approx. 2–2½ hours. Lesson 2 is approx. 2 hours.
- ●Most groups are ready to play after the series — many invite me back for strategy or a refresher!

Meet Beth
I'm an early riser, hot coffee at home while the house is still quiet, then an iced coffee on my way out the door. That's the only way the day starts right. Most days I'm running Jax Gifts, keeping up with my kids, and spending plenty of time on the phone with family and friends. When I get a break, you'll find me on the tennis or pickleball court, or with a needlepoint project I've been "working on" for way too long.
Mahjong has been part of my life for years: tiles, laughter, and summers at the bungalow colony, where a bunch of us kids sat around the table playing even though it wasn't really a "thing" back then.
Last summer, some friends in Englewood asked me to teach them, and one of them said I should be doing this for real. By the end of October, I was. I figured, who can actually play mahjong in the middle of a Tuesday afternoon? Turns out, a lot of people.
Now I have a mahjong room set up at home, with different sets and tables, and people coming through all day and night. I've taught kids as young as six, hosted family lessons, and run tournaments for all ages. This summer, I'm heading out to camps to teach.
Mahj with Beth and Jax Gifts go hand in hand : same energy, same personality, just Beth. I live in Englewood with my husband Ben and our three boys, ages 16, 15, and 8, and yes, they all know how to play. My youngest, James, is probably the best out of all of us.
Whether you're brand new to the game, want to learn a few strategies, look over the new card, or just want a little more Beth energy in your life, I'd love to have you at the table.
What I Offer:
Private Lessons :One-on-one (or small group) instruction tailored completely to your pace. Perfect for beginners or players who want to sharpen their game. In-person or Zoom.
Group Classes : Grab your crew and come learn together. Great for friend groups, mom groups, sisters, neighbors — any combination. Regular classes also open to individuals.
Kids & Teens :Mahjong for the next generation. I run kids and teen classes that are age-appropriate, engaging, and actually fun. My 5th and 6th grade girls groups are legendary.
Corporate Events : Team-building with tiles. A mahjong session is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser — fun, social, and something totally different. I bring everything; you just show up.
Tournaments : I host and run mahjong tournaments — from friendly beginner brackets to more competitive formats. An unforgettable event with prizes, energy, and bragging rights.
Zoom Classes : Not in Bergen County? No problem. I teach over Zoom using a document camera so you can see every tile clearly. Same energy, same experience — just virtual.
